Burna Boy becomes first African artiste to hit 50 million monthly Spotify listeners

Nigerian Afrobeats superstar Burna Boy has made history by becoming the first African artiste to surpass 50 million monthly listeners on Spotify.

The "Gbona" hitmaker reached the milestone on Monday, July 6, setting a new record for African musicians on the global streaming platform.

Burna Boy's latest achievement has been largely driven by the massive success of his FIFA World Cup collaboration with Shakira, titled Dai Dai, which has topped Spotify's Global Top Songs chart for several days.

The song has continued to break streaming records during the ongoing FIFA World Cup, contributing significantly to Burna Boy's growing global audience.

The success of Dai Dai has also helped Shakira reach a career milestone, as she recently surpassed 100 million monthly listeners on Spotify for the first time, becoming only the second Latino artiste after Bad Bunny to achieve the feat.

In another major accomplishment, the music video for Dai Dai recently became the first video released in 2026 to surpass 300 million views on YouTube.

Burna Boy's latest record further strengthens his position as one of Africa's biggest global music exports and highlights the growing international influence of Afrobeats.
